Profile
Founded in 1998, Mindspan has undergone significant changes over the years – morphing from a public sector consultancy on matters pertaining to enterprise IT, to serving private sector concerns predominately in the software development and marketing arenas.
At its inception, Mindspan’s founder, Ray Richards, rallied a pool of independent consultants and single-discipline consultancy firms to respond to requests for proposals from federal governmental departments – with the notion that smaller, more nimble groups of specialists would provide superior results to those typical of our larger competitors. Our strategy proved successful, garnering contracts with departments including the National Research Council, Statistics Canada, and DND’s Vice Chief of Defence Staff.
In subsequent years, as government budgets were slashed, Mindspan shifted its attention to the private sector and its burgeoning interest in Internet-based technologies. Working with firms such as California’s Reunion.com, a constituent of the top 100 sites on the planet at the time, Mindspan provided analysis and management of electronic marketing campaigns which accounted for over 80% of the company’s revenues –Â reliably delivering and tracking over 13 million user-specific impressions every week.
As Mindspan continued to serve the corporate sector, the emerging mobile market began to show promise, and in light of this fact, the company gained additional core competencies in app development on the dominant platform: Apple’s iOS.
With the implosion of tech giant Nortel, and the subsequent financial downturn in 2008, the environment in Ottawa became significantly less attractive than in previous years – leading to a decision to relocate the consultancy westward to British Columbia. Now situated on the harbour in Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, (literally 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver, and under an hour to Seattle), Mindspan is poised to capitalize on opportunities presented within this bustling region.
