Who We Are

The Downtown Nanaimo Business Association (DNBA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a vibrant, prosperous, and inclusive downtown core. We represent the interests of downtown property owners and business operators, working collaboratively to enhance the economic vitality, physical appeal, and cultural vibrancy of Nanaimo’s historic city centre.

The DNBA is funded through a dedicated tax levy administered by the City of Nanaimo. This levy enables the association to deliver strategic programs, events, and initiatives that support downtown development, beautification, marketing, and advocacy on behalf of the business community.

Our membership includes a broad and diverse range of enterprises—from independent retailers and service providers to hospitality businesses and cultural organizations—all united by a commitment to creating a dynamic and welcoming downtown that attracts residents, visitors, and investment.

Our Mandate

The DNBA exists to:

• Promote and market Downtown Nanaimo as a premier destination for shopping, dining, arts, culture, and commerce.
• Advocate on behalf of our members to ensure downtown’s needs and interests are effectively represented at municipal and regional levels.
• Support safety and vibrancy by collaborating with stakeholders on initiatives that improve security and social well-being.
• Foster community connections by supporting events, public art, and placemaking initiatives that celebrate local culture and enhance visitor experience.
As stewards of Downtown Nanaimo’s continued revitalization, the DNBA is committed to driving progress that respects our heritage, supports our members, and strengthens our community.
